Pope rejects condoms for Africa

The spread of HIV and Aids in Africa should be tackled through fidelity and abstinence and not by condoms, Pope Benedict XVI has said.

Speaking to African bishops at the Vatican, the Pope described HIV/Aids in Africa as a “cruel epidemic”.

But he told them: “The traditional teaching of the church has proven to be the only failsafe way to prevent the spread of HIV/Aids.”
How can anyone afford to be this naive or ignorant!?!?! This is why I hold the pope as well as the catholic church responsible for the murder of the 600-1000 people in Africa that die of Aids every day.

I understand the pope and church trying to save souls but aren’t the souls you’re trying to collect worthy of a fair shot at life first? Maybe the pope is going for quantity rather then quality in trying to fill heaven with souls.

This is the perfect example on how religion preaches and practices ignorance rather then enlightenment and life education.

Who allowed the pope to be the referee anyway… he doesn’t even take part in the game so why are we allowing him to make up the rules?

In christianity the greates good is supposed to be life so how can they contractdict themselves this way basically telling people ’screw staying alive just make sure you don’t use condoms’

The use of condoms is not forbidden anywhere in the bible so why is the church preaching otherwise?

This is so enraging and absurd I can’t understand why the pope would harm humanity this way.

Here’s a possible explanation:

‘the film Constantine is real and there is a war going on between heaven and hell and heaven is losing. To strengthen the heavenly army god sent down an angel and told the pope to get many people killed so heaven will have a fully stocked cupboard of souls again. Africa is the supermarket and the souls are on sale… the pope is getting as many as he can asap so that just like the AIG people at the end of the year he will receive a nice bonus…’

How’s that… any other suggestions?

Yesterday it was the Vatican and today it’s the Church of England that made the headlines.

The Church has published two prayers today; one for people who because of the Global financial crises have been made redundant and a prayer for those who remain in the workplace.

Here are some highlights from the prayer for those that are made redundant:

‘Redundant’ – the word says it all – ‘useless, unnecessary, without purpose, surplus to requirements.’

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that in the middle of the sadness, the anger, the uncertainty, the pain,

I can talk to you. Hear me as I cry out in confusion, help me to think clearly, and calm my soul.’

And here for the people that remain at work:

‘Life has changed: colleagues have gone – redundant, out of work. Suddenly, what seemed so secure is now so very fragile.

Lord Jesus, in the midst of this uncertainty, help me to keep going: to work to the best of my ability, taking each day at a time, and taking time each day to walk with you for you are the way, the truth and the life.Amen.

Here are some highlights of my thoughts on the redundancy prayer:

Dear Church of England thank you that in the middle of a global financial crisis we have you to procure some amusement.

Your useless, unnecessary prayer without purpose calms our souls by introducing laughter and clears our mind of confusion as you prove yourself as useless and ridiculous as the Vatican.

Thank you for instead of allowing me to use my time to find a new job you have me wasting my time on prayers like these. Thank you for helping me earn money to pay my bills and buy some food. ( you don’t actually do that? oh, I thought  you were actually helping solve problems, my mistake)  Amen.

And here some highlights on the other prayer:

‘Life has changed: colleagues have gone – ehhm doesn’t this happen every month?

Suddenly, what people take for granted is now being named fragile and secure?!

Oh Church of England, help people see that working to the best of your ability is something you strive to achieve every day and not just in times of financial uncertainty (unless you pray to be un-employed of course).

Taking each day at a time, and taking time each day to consider how silly religion actually is. For that really is the truth and life.

Amen

This morning’s news had me baffled at the Vatican’s ignorance once more..

The following article was in the news this morning:

‘VATICAN CITY (AFP) — The contraceptive pill is polluting the environment and is in part responsible for male infertility, a report in the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano said Saturday.

The pill “has for some years had devastating effects on the environment by releasing tonnes of hormones into nature” through female urine, said Pedro Jose Maria Simon Castellvi, president of the International Federation of Catholic Medical Associations, in the report.

“We have sufficient evidence to state that a non-negligible cause of male infertility in the West is the environmental pollution caused by the pill,” he said, without elaborating further.’

Let’s turn the tables on this analogy:

birth control = less people = less polution?!

doesn’t that just make a lot more sense?

This ‘research’ really sparks a lot of questions:

  • What’s the environmental effect on urinating while on any prescription medication?
  • What incense is this researcher on (and what is THAT doing to nature?)
  • Is it harmful for people around you if you urinate while you are ill?
  • Is it more dangerous to urinate outside or on a toilet?
  • Could you get liver disease or drunk if you regularly stand next to a drunk person urinating?
  • Is the Vatican opposing urinating in general or just urinating by women using birth control?
  • Isn’t male infertility in the West  more likely to be caused by excessive alcohol consumption, bad eating habits and leading stressful lives?
  • Will urinating while on birth control be the next mortal sin? (I’m sure within the next few years a ‘lost’ scroll from the bible will turn up stating something to that effect.)

ahhh, ignorance is bliss…. (at least for the ignorant)

A man living in Enschede (the Netherlands) tried to sell his 11-year old daughter online.

He had planned to make her ingest GHB and when she would be unconcious he would let the highest bidder have sex with her while he would get paid for it.

Though the story baffles me the outcome of the court case was even more repulsive. The judge stated the behavior to be repulsive he found the man to be ‘not guilty’ According to the judge there is ‘ no solid evidence that the man actually intended his daugter to be abused’ further more since there never really was an actual meeting in which the alleged abuse was to take place there is no crime to be charged.

Did the judge not read the transcript in which the man offers his daughter to the highest bidder? Did the judge forget that the girl is 11 years old? Did the judge forget that GHB is illegal? How solid would this judge like the evidence to be?

The Dutch judicial system has definately outdone itself again!

Dangerous candy

September 4, 2008

I went to the supermarket today and bought something only because of the packaging. I was absolutely blown away by it. A famous lollipop manufacturer has changed the packaging of their mini-lollipops to resemble packs of cigarettes. Complete with the warningbar at the bottom. The text on the bottom can lead to some embarrassing moments at the markets.

Picture you at the counter with your child and the child sees the bright coloured package and says ‘ mommy can I have those’ imagine the surprise on your face when you look up to see a package that reads ” Sucking relaxes’ or if you happen to be in Germany the package will read ‘Lick me’ Your child is probably too little to understand why you just turned bright red and bought him the candy without negotiating first.

I’d say the marketeers on this one deserve a raise or a bonus…!

In the town of Mondragone in Italy (near Naples) a priest had announced that he wanted to organize a beauty pageant for nuns. Father Rungi wanted to host the called Miss Sister Italy contest to end the stereotype of nuns being old and dour.

Does this not go against a lot of things the church claims to stand for and even dip into pretty much all 7 of the deadly sins?

1. Lust – having nuns parade around in their best robe or even in their best nun-swimwear could very easily trigger feelings of lust in any male jurors or priest can it not? Ok, granted, these ladies don’t wax etc but let’s face it priests don’t usually get a whole lot of action; who knows what could tun them on ( and No, we are not opening up ‘that’ discussion)

2. Gluttony – gluttony means over-indulging; though this sin is usually linked to food isn’t indulging into something like vanity ‘over’ indulging by default if you’ve never indulged in this before?

3. Greed – a sin of excess – would the desire to win the competition not make you greedy?

4. Sloth – the sin of sadness or despair – it had been in the early years of Christianity characterized by what you would now describe as melancholy: apathy, depression. Part of the ancient explanation was that sloth could lead to spiritual apathy that affected the faithful by discouraging them from their religious work. Can you imagine how sad and full of despair the nuns would feel if they did not win the pageant?

5. Wrath – may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger. Next to sad I’m sure that one or two of the nuns that did not win could bear feelings of hatred and anger towards the winner.

6. Envy – well, does he word ‘envy’ not already say enough? All of the ‘losing’ nuns would be jealous for not taking the crown ( or rosary or whatever the prize would be)

7. Pride – often considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins; the nuns surely are proud to be nuns and to lead such a dedicating and virtuous life. But if that leads you to enter a pageant and show that pride on the runway I wonder if it’s a good idea.

To cut a long story short… ‘ Father, this is a bad bad idea; you are leading these poor nuns straight to hell rather then heaven….

Definitions

August 27, 2008

Today I was thinking about definitions; our silent needs to define things and how because of this need we actually use definitions in the wrong way.

Here’s an example:

In every online account we make ( be it email or other) we need to make up a profile and basically define ourselves in a few boxes. Most of them are pretty straight forward like male/female. The marital status is actually already more difficult even if it seems simple enough you’re single or you’re taken.. Is it really that simple? I don’t agree!

People can be ’single’ by definition yet ‘taken’ by state of mind (even if they don’t realize it)

‘Single’ only means you do not have a partner at this moment however not having a partner does not make you ’single’ by default.

Some ’singles’ are so completely wrapped up and lost in themselves that by no justification you can define them anything but ‘taken’

So why this need to define yourself and your life, wouldn’t we make our lives so much easier if you could just ‘BE’ ourselves rather then a definition?

and that was all!?!

August 25, 2008

went to the vet’ s at 20:15…

Aiko had been in acute kidney failure and she needed to be put down, she was only 2 1/2 years old.

The vet took her out of her cage and gave her to me; as soon as I had her in my arms she gently pressed against me almost as if she knew what was going to happen. I comfoted her and she moaned a bit; it was the saddest ‘miauw’ I had ever heard, full of pain and fatigue. In a strange way that comforted me because it confirmed that this was the right thing to do because she was suffering.

At 20:48 the first dose of narcotics was administered and slowly she was going to sleep, she had her eyes open and looked at me while she slowly dosed off. While she dosed off I whispered to her, I told her I was sorry, I also thanked her, though she was quite the character she was still a good cat and I was glad to have been able to have kept her.

Once she was unconscious I was asked if I was ready for the second dose to be administered; this would be the lethal dose; for a few seconds I froze, I was about to give permission to end a life. While the tears started running down my face I nodded and she administered the lethal dose.

At 20.51 the vet checked if there was a heartbeat and there was not, Aiko was now lying in my arms …dead..

I gave her back to the vet and we discussed what was to happen now and after that I went back upstairs to pay the bill.

128,50 and 36 minutes after I stepped into the vet’s I left and there was one less soul in the world, 128,50 and 36 minutes that was all.

Goodnight sweet Aiko I will always remember you as the first day we took you home
